Sponsored pre-licensing workshops for potential centers are scheduled throughout the state.  The workshop is a comprehensive review of the North Carolina Child Care rules and regulations for operating facilities.  For more information, contact AACF at 252-333-1233.  You can also learn more about starting a childcare business at the NC Division of Child Development and Early Education.

North Carolina law states:

Effective January 1, 1996, it became law that the Department of Human Resources ensure the criminal history of all child care providers is checked and that a determination is made of all providers’ fitness to have the responsibility for the safety and well-being of children based on that criminal history.

Providers and applicants must submit a county and State history if they have lived in North Carolina continuously for the previous five years. All others shall have their county, State, and national criminal histories checked.

The NCDCDEE has the right to prohibit a childcare provider from providing care if it determines that the provider is unfit to have such responsibility. This is in accordance with General Statute 110-90.1
